Summary
Barrier is a private skincare journal. Your products, routines, logs, journal entries and photos are stored on your device. There is no account. We do not sell data, show ads, or track you across apps.
Data stored on your device
- Products on your shelf, their ingredient lists and where each list came from.
- Routines, their versions and the days you logged them.
- Journal check-ins (optional comfort rating, tags, notes) and optional photos you add.
This data stays in the app's private storage on your device. It is included in your device backups according to your iOS settings. You can export it (CSV, PDF, or a full backup file) or erase it at any time in Settings → Your data. Exported files are not encrypted; share them only with people you trust.
Catalog search
When you search the product catalog or look up a barcode, the search text or barcode is sent to Open Beauty Facts (openbeautyfacts.org), an open, community-maintained database, to return matching products. Barrier sends nothing else with that request. Open Beauty Facts' own privacy policy applies to their service.
Camera and photos
The camera is used only when you choose to scan a barcode or add a photo. Photos you add are stored only on your device. Barrier never analyses faces or skin in photos.
Anonymous usage statistics (on by default)
Anonymous usage statistics are on by default. Barrier sends anonymous usage events — for example "a routine was logged" or "an export was completed" — with a device identifier, and diagnostics and crash information, to PostHog, our analytics provider (servers in the USA). This information is not linked to your identity and is not used for tracking across apps or for advertising. Events never include product names, ingredient lists, notes, photos, barcodes or other content you enter. You can turn this off at any time in Settings; turning it off stops sending and resets the anonymous identifier. In the EU, the EEA and the UK, the app asks for your consent on first launch and sends no usage statistics unless you agree.
Purchases
If you subscribe to Barrier Pro, the purchase is processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to check your subscription status with an anonymous app user ID. We do not receive your payment details.
Health information
Barrier is not a medical app. It does not diagnose, treat or assess skin conditions, ingredient safety or allergies. Anything you write in the journal stays on your device unless you export it yourself.
Children
Barrier is intended for adults (18+).
